Manga Reader Program?
« on: December 17, 2005, 05:20:51 AM »
Hey guys, just wondering what programs you guys like to use to read manga.  I had a good program on my old computer, but it broke (my computer, that is) and now for the life of me I can't remember the name of the program ^^;  Right now, i'm using xnview, but I'm not all that happy with it.  It has a slow scroll, and I have to reset the zoom every time I load a new folder - very annoying.   Any suggestions? :)

ACDSee is generally considered one of the best programs to use for reading scanned manga. If you can find an older version that doesn't need registration, that'd work best.

the only one thing CDisplay lacks is Unicode handling.
which means it can't open files whose filename contains non-ASCII characters.

well... CBR files are nothing more that renamed RAR files... (and CBZ = ZIP)
so... any software managing RAR files can manage CBR ones.
by the way, isn't CDisplay the very one which introduced CBR and CBZ "format" ?

cbr are compressed, ACDSee don't go through compressed file (at least not the version i'm using and the post 3.1 arn't light enough to be good).

And it's so boring to uncomrpess all and redoing the folder ^^

I don't know if Cdisplay introduced that format but i know it was made to read it :p

LOL! Way to go, dude! ^^;

Anyway, back on the topic.. I always use ACDSee to read scanlated manga. I used version 4 from the beginning and last for a some times before version 7 came out, which i think a real better version and the best so far. Fully supports compressed files. The only cons is, it's not resource friendly.

I've tried CDisplay v1.7, 2 years ago. I don't like it for some reasons i don't remember anymore, when compared with ACDSee (v4 at that time).

GEEZ, read real book, i mean i understand it is more convenient to read from computer... and you can dwld them, save money...
i don't know.. i can't really read comic from computer or in jpeg file.. UNLESS.. unless it is in mobile device..

i ever read comic from IPOD touch.. my friend got it, and he got BLACK JACK in it.. pretty cool actually.. i guess i am more used to holding the exact book.
instead of sitting infront of computer and read it, i can't stand it..

but isn't ACDsee should be okay? hmm never know there is program to read manga.

same here...the reason i dont really read manga online is because i cant stand for too long in front of my comp reading manga even though using the manga reader program, the sensation might be similar. But I still prefer traditional print, cos its really comfortable to read everywhere even while I am laying on my bed. but I used AcDsee before.  It is really a useful program i should say
